On the 24th of October 1945 the UN charter was ratified and the UN officially came into existence

United Nations Day was first marked in 1948, three years after the organisation came into existence. The day is being celebrated to increase awareness of the organisation’s many activities and efforts around the globe.
In a message UN secretary general António Guterres states that the organisations reaffirms its commitment to the values expressed in the charter and that the United Nations “will never give up”.

The Whitehouse released a statement praising the organisation, stating the commitment of the to United States to “drive the United Nations forward” but also ” insisting on fundamental reforms”.

The High Representative/Vice-President of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, also published a statement, celebrating the partnership of the European Union with the United Nations, stressing that “there is momentum for collective action in support of multilateralism”.

In April 1945 the UN Conference on International Organization was held in San Francisco with delegations from 50 governments and some non governmental organisations. After the ratification of the charter by the five permanent members of the security council and the majority of the other participating countries, the organisation officially come into existence on October-24 1945.
